Here’s the outfit I wore last Friday to Restaurant Week Dinner.    I really love this lace cardigan that I picked up at Target a couple of weeks ago!

Thank you for making yourself available for not one, but two reservations this week.  Friday night I went to Table 31 with some friends and enjoyed the rich chocolate tarte.

Honestly, I wasn’t tremendously impressed with the food outside of the little beauty pictured above.  The service was slow and it was much too loud in the dining room for my taste.  BUT the company was good and I enjoyed myself!  The cool thing about Table 31 is that it’s in the new Comcast Center, which is the tallest building in Philadelphia at 975 ft.  I think the top of the building looks unfinished, but I keep hearing that it’s meant to look like a USB drive.  Silly.

Afterward we headed over to the Franklin Mortgage & Investment, Co. To my delight they didn’t sell mortgages or IRA accounts, but in fact the underground establishment is modeled after a 1920s speakeasy.  It was definitely a cool experience, and the owners pay close attention to the authenticity of the ambiance (flickering lights, lack of windows, dark corners).  They also have an “ice program”.  What is an “ice program”, you ask?  Well essentially, FM&I invested in a very fancy ice machine that freezes the ice from the bottom up to remove any impurities or air in the water, so the result is a clear and long lasting ice cube.  No lie, when I finished my drink after nursing it for a good 30 minutes, the ice didn’t appear to have melted at all.

Now if I could just kick this persistent cough…

I thought it would be awesome to buy these magenta velor pants.  Dave tried to be nice and say they fit very nicely… But let’s face it.  They’re magenta… and velor.

Here I am, hanging my head in shame.

… and then ate it in 10 minutes.

We thought it was a smashing success.

Just. So. Tired.

Up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, the greatest thing happens every Saturday.  The Philadelphia Brewing Company, opens the doors to their facility and they give informative and entertaining tours where they explain the history of beer in America (which involves William Penn and Philadelphia), show you how beer is made, and even let you munch a little bit on some malted barley.  They have a 60 barrel tank that’s painted pink to look like a pig…

….  But that’s not even the best part.  The best part is that from 12-3 you can sample all of their beer in the nifty bar they have upstairs for free!  I was most pleasantly surprised by their winter seasonal brew “Joe”, a coffee porter.

I love the way coffee smells, but it’s generally too strong/bitter for me to actually drink and it gives me the jitters, but this beer was so smooth and I felt quite the opposite of jittery by the time 3 PM rolled around.  I’m still not sure I would drink it with my breakfast though.

Oh, and you can also buy mixed cases of their brews for $25.25, which according to my mathematical abilities works out to about a dollar.

I have to say this got me all excited for Beer Fest which is coming up the first weekend in March.

7.  Zahav — Middle Eastern.  It looks like this might be the first restaurant of the new year.  They do a big spread for Restaurant Week and I’m excited!  We’ve got a reservation in a couple of weeks. I hear the fried cauliflower is delicious.

8. Rangoon — Burmese.  Another Chinatown recommendation from friends.  I believe Burmese is like Thai, so between this and the Malaysian restaurant I should be able to get my pineapple fried rice fix on.  Yes!

9.  Fond — contemporary American BYOB.  Oh, how I LOVE pork belly.  I don’t quite know how it’s prepared, nor am I sure I want to know… but I still love that salty, fatty, yum.

10.  Honey’s Sit & Eat –Southern.  SUPPOSEDLY this is the best brunch in Philly, but I don’t know how that could possibly be true.  How could anything be better than my local diner, Morning Glory?

11.  Max Brenner — Chocolate.  A menu centered around chocolate?  No, I don’t mean desserts, I mean appetizers and entres. I will be there!

12.  Wild Card… I supposed I should leave one choice for later.. maybe let the boyfriend pick one.
